Hatcher Stubbs Welcomes 2010 Summer Interns

Hatcher Stubbs is pleased to announce our summer interns for 2010.  The program is designed for 1st and 2nd year law students and seeks to mirror the experience of a first year associate as much as possible.  It affords the student and the Firm the opportunity to learn about each other during a six or twelve week program.

  • Joley Eason is a 2007 graduate of The College of William and Mary with majors in The Thomas Jefferson Program in Public Policy, and Sociology.  Joley is a first year law student at the University of Pittsburgh School of Law.  Joley is from Buena Vista, Georgia.
  • Whitney Johnson is a 2008 graduate of Auburn University with a major in Political Science.  Whitney is a second year law student at Mercer University, Walter F. George School of Law.  Whitney is from Columbus, Georgia.
  • David Mize is a 2008 graduate of the University of Georgia with a major in Business Administration in Finance.  David is a first year law student at Georgia State University College of Law.  David is from Columbus, Georgia.
  • Carl Rhodes, Jr. is joining us for his second summer.  Carl is a 2008 graduate of the University of Georgia with a major in Business Administration, Banking and Finance.  He is a second year law student at University of Georgia School of Law.  Carl is from Columbus, Georgia.

 

2009

Hatcher, Stubbs' Attorney Admitted to American College of Trial Lawyers

Robert C. Martin Jr., has become a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, one of the premier legal associations in America at an induction ceremony recently before an audience of approximately 974 persons during the 2009 annual Meeting of the College in Boston, Massachusetts.

Founded in 1950, the College is composed of the best of the trial bar from the United States and Canada.  Fellowship in the College is extended by invitation only and after a careful investigation, so those experienced trial lawyers who have mastered the art of advocacy and whose professional careers have been marked by the highest standards of ethical conduct, professionalism, civility and collegiality.  Lawyers must have a minimum of fifteen years trial experience before they can be considered for Fellowship.

Membership in the College cannot exceed one per cent of the total lawyer population of any state or province.  There are currently approximately 5,729 members in the United States and Canada.

The College strives to improve and elevate the standards of trial practice, the administration of justice and the ethics of the trial profession.  Qualified lawyers are called to Fellowship in the College from all branches of trial practice.  The lawyers are carefully selected from among those who customarily represent plaintiffs in civil cases and those who customarily represent defendants, those who prosecute accused of crime and those who defend them.  The College is thus able to speak with a balanced voice on important issues affecting the legal profession and the administration of justice.

Cal Martin is a partner in the firm of Hatcher, Stubbs, Land, Hollis & Rothschild, LLP and has been practicing in Columbus for 29 years. He is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and the University Of Georgia Lumpkin School Of Law. He focuses his practice primarily in the area of medical malpractice defense, among other types of civil litigation.  Hatcher, Stubbs is one of the oldest law firms in the State of Georgia, tracing it’s roots back to 1872.

Alan Rothschild, Jr. named ABA Section Chair-Elect

Alan F. Rothschild, Jr., a partner with the firm, has been named Chair-Elect of the American Bar Association’s Section of Real Property, Trust & Estate Law at its recent annual meeting in Chicago. 

The Section, with over 25,000 members, is the leading national forum for lawyers practicing in the estate planning and real estate fields, offering technical analyses of legal issues to the government, developing practice guidelines, holding educational sessions for lawyers, and giving legislation input to states.  Rothschild, who is in line to become Section Chair in 2010, will be only the second chair from Georgia in the Section’s 85 year history.

 

 

Melanie Slaton received the "Women of Distinction" award from the Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia for 2009

 

The Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia named Melanie Slaton a “Woman of Distinction” for 2009.  This honor is awarded by the Girl Scouts for women who have distinguished themselves as outstanding members of their community through individual excellence and high levels of achievement.  Past recipients have included women honored for excellence in the areas of business, education, government, communications, health care, sports, volunteer services, multicultural activities and Girl Scouting.

Four Partners Selected Georgia Super Lawyers for 2008

 

Four Partners from Hatcher, Stubbs have been selected as Georgia Super Lawyers for 2008.  Less than 5% of Georgia’s attorneys are selected for this honor, after extensive research by Law & Politics, Atlanta Magazine and surveys by more than 23,000 lawyers across the State.  Georgia Super Lawyers is a comprehensive and diverse listing of outstanding lawyers in Georgia, including those in both non-private and private practice.  Alan Rothschild was named by Super Lawyers as one of the top 100 lawyers in the State for 2008.

  • John Banaszak completed his undergraduate degree in Political Science in 2006 from the University of Georgia. He is from Midland, Georgia, and is a first year student at Mercer University's Walter F. George School of Law in Macon, Georgia.
  • Matt Massey is also a first year law student at Mercer University. Matt graduated from the University of Georgia in 2006 with a major in Political Science. He is from Columbus.
  • Bin Minter is a 2002 graduate of the University of Georgia with a major in English. Bin spent several years in education and training before returning to Athens where he is a first year law student. Bin is also from Columbus.
  • Kelley Pierce is a 2005 graduate of Mercer University with majors in International Affairs and Spanish. She is a first year law student at Mercer University and is from Columbus.
  • Thompson Turner received an undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University with a major in English in 2006. He is a first year law student at Emory University School of Law in Atlanta. Thompson is also from Columbus.

Hatcher Stubbs' lawyers have again been selected by their colleagues and peers in the profession as 2007 Georgia Super Lawyers. Hatcher Stubbs Hosts UGA Law School Dean

 

Dean Rebecca H. White, of the University of Georgia School of Law, recently visited Hatcher Stubbs to report on the school's activities, accomplishments and successes during the past year. Hatcher Stubbs' long-standing relationship with the law school is evident in its continued support of and interaction with the school and its faculty. Over half of the Firms' lawyers are graduates of Georgia Law, and two graduates of the Class of 2007 will join the Firm this fall. Class of 1985 alumnus Alan Rothschild was recently appointed to the University of Georgia School of Law Alumni Association Council.

 

 

2006

Hatcher Stubbs Welcomes New Partner Jorge Vega  

  

A Harvard Law School graduate, Jorge Vega became the first assistant Attorney General for the State of Texas. He has extensive litigation experience in both Texas and Washington. In addition to his litigation practice, Jorge handled a variety of municipal matters as the Planning Director for the City of Bellingham, Washington for three years. Jorge has been a participant in several local forums on various constitutional law topics. He joins the litigation and administrative law practice groups.
