Columbus Attorney Admitted to American College of Trial Lawyers
Robert C. Martin Jr., has become a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, one of the premier legal associations in America at an induction ceremony recently before an audience of approximately 974 persons during the 2009 annual Meeting of the College in Boston, Massachusetts.
Founded in 1950, the College is composed of the best of the trial bar from the United States and Canada. Fellowship in the College is extended by invitation only and after a careful investigation, so those experienced trial lawyers who have mastered the art of advocacy and whose professional careers have been marked by the highest standards of ethical conduct, professionalism, civility and collegiality. Lawyers must have a minimum of fifteen years trial experience before they can be considered for Fellowship.
Membership in the College cannot exceed one per cent of the total lawyer population of any state or province. There are currently approximately 5,729 members in the United States and Canada.
The College strives to improve and elevate the standards of trial practice, the administration of justice and the ethics of the trial profession. Qualified lawyers are called to Fellowship in the College from all branches of trial practice. The lawyers are carefully selected from among those who customarily represent plaintiffs in civil cases and those who customarily represent defendants, those who prosecute accused of crime and those who defend them. The College is thus able to speak with a balanced voice on important issues affecting the legal profession and the administration of justice.
Cal Martin is a partner in the firm of Hatcher, Stubbs, Land, Hollis & Rothschild, LLP and has been practicing in Columbus for 29 years. He is a graduate of Vanderbilt University and the University Of Georgia Lumpkin School Of Law. He focuses his practice primarily in the area of medical malpractice defense, among other types of civil litigation. Hatcher, Stubbs is one of the oldest law firms in the State of Georgia, tracing it’s roots back to 1872.
Alan Rothschild, Jr. named ABA Section Chair-Elect.
Alan F. Rothschild, Jr., a partner with the firm, has been named Chair-Elect of the American Bar Association’s Section of Real Property, Trust & Estate Law at its recent annual meeting in Chicago.
The Section, with over 25,000 members, is the leading national forum for lawyers practicing in the estate planning and real estate fields, offering technical analyses of legal issues to the government, developing practice guidelines, holding educational sessions for lawyers, and giving legislation input to states. Rothschild, who is in line to become Section Chair in 2010, will be only the second chair from Georgia in the Section’s 85 year history.
Melanie Slaton received the “Women of Distinction” award from the Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia for 2009.
The Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia named Melanie Slaton a “Woman of Distinction” for 2009. This honor is awarded by the Girl Scouts for women who have distinguished themselves as outstanding members of their community through individual excellence and high levels of achievement. Past recipients have included women honored for excellence in the areas of business, education, government, communications, health care, sports, volunteer services, multicultural activities and Girl Scouting.
